Rooted Elements was founded in 2021 by life-long friends Sara Melanson and Amber Lewis. Their aim was to focus on seed-grown native plants that would not only be beautiful in the garden, but beneficial to pollinators and other wildlife as well. They decided early on that they didn’t want to use peat moss in their nursery because of the unsustainable impact on the environment, and made the move to go peat-free in 2022.

Their experience as gardeners and garden designers helps inform their work in the nursery, and they enjoy helping customers choose plants for their unique situations, to create gardens that are as vibrantly beautiful as they are ecologically important.

They plan to open a native plant nursery and retail shop in Montville, Maine offering peat-free soils, gardening tools, and goods made by local artisans.
